Freddie Mac late last week released estimated financial results for the third quarter that showed the government-sponsored enterprise continuing to trail its performance from a year ago despite an increase in mortgage purchase activity in 2005. Officials estimated $2.1 billion in net income for the first nine months of 2005, including some $190 million in expenses related to hurricanes. That was down from an estimated $2.6 billion for the same period in 2004.
