The fraud and identity theft problems that recently plagued the credit card industry could migrate to the mortgage industry, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. In a new white paper, “Protecting Personal Information: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly,” the MBA says that a crackdown on identity theft by credit card companies could leave mortgage lenders vulnerable, especially those that issue home-equity lines of credit.
