Even as it mounts a massive housing relief effort in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Department of Housing and Urban Development still has one eye on violators of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act. On Sept. 20, HUD announced a $48,000 settlement with a real estate broker charged with providing a luxury car, vacations and other gifts to reward sales agents for referring business to an affiliated mortgage company.
