New Mexico’s top law enforcer has asked subprime mortgage lenders to submit information about their efforts to protect consumers from lending abuses. “The purpose of my inquiry is to determine how the subprime industry is treating consumers and to see whether standards set by the states’ attorneys general in the 2002 settlement with Household Finance International have been subsequently adopted by others in the marketplace,” explained State Attorney General Patricia Madrid.
