The FDIC recently released guidelines to fight pharming. That’s where criminals hijack a domain name, like AnyMortageCompany.com, and then anyone that tries to visit that Web page is redirected to a fake site that looks just like the real one. This differs from phishing, where a person is encouraged to click on an e-mail link that takes them to a fake Web page, but both scams serve the same purpose – to steal private information.
