Rising levels of fraud are chipping away at lender profitability through increased compliance and servicing costs. That was the message delivered to lenders at the recent Subprime and Alternative Products conference sponsored by the Mortgage Bankers Association, where participants heard of a tripling – to more than 17,000 – in the number of mortgage fraud cases reported to the FBI last year.
