Mortgage REITs have grown dramatically over the last three years, but Lehman Brothers analysts say there’s more potential in the roomy U.S. mortgage market and conditions are very promising. Real estate investment trusts that specialize in acquiring mortgage debt have seen their combined market capitalization grow from $3.99 billion in 2001 to $24.77 billion at the end of last year, according to the National Association of REITs.
