Lawmakers in both the House and Senate are moving quickly – possibly as early as next week – to take up legislation to overhaul the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And there are early indications that Republicans, Democrats and the Bush administration are close to agreeing on how to deal with some very contentious issues – such as portfolio caps and drawing a “bright line” to define secondary mortgage market activities.
