After seven years of trying, the financial services industry pushed bankruptcy reform legislation into law as President Bush this week signed S. 256, the “Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005.” The House voted 302 to 126 to pass the bill last week, following a 74 to 25 vote of approval in the Senate in early March. Senate lawmakers rejected a controversial amendment that helped derail bankruptcy reform last year.
