The possibility that states may be considering legislation that would require mass licensing has prompted the Mortgage Bankers Association to call on state legislatures for a more moderate approach. In a Nov. 9 letter, the industry group urged lawmakers and regulators in nine states – Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington – to speak with mortgage bankers first before considering creating or amending state licensing laws.
