Mortgage lenders and brokers should take heed of recent enforcement actions against two mortgage broker firms for alleged violation of the Federal Trade Commission’s regulations regarding protection of sensitive consumer information. The FTC filed complaints against Nationwide Mortgage Group, Inc. of Fairfax, VA, and Sunbelt Lenders Services of Clearwater, FL, as a result of a nationwide sweep of companies suspected of violating the agency’s “Safeguard Rules” under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
