Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac won’t have to implement new protections against predatory lending to ensure that they meet a tough new set of affordable housing targets developed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. But the goals – issued in final form by HUD this month – will likely drive the two secondary market behemoths to eat a larger slice of the subprime pie.
