Fannie Mae had a very good day on Capitol Hill this week, successfully deflecting charges of accounting misconduct at the government-sponsored enterprise and raising doubts about the conclusions of alleged wrongdoing reached by its safety and soundness regulator. At a marathon congressional hearing that was supposed to investigate charges of accounting irregularities and missteps at Fannie Mae, the focus quickly shifted to the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight and whether the agency was justified
