A sizable number of Americans don’t understand how credit scores work, a new survey sponsored by the Consumer Federation of America and credit card issuer Providian suggests. The survey of a 1,027 randomly selected adults taken in July found that while most consumers understand that lenders use credit scores, relatively few understand exactly how they are used, what constitutes a good score, or how they can find out what their score is.
