First Nationwide Mortgage, now part of Citigroup, had a robust mortgage business. In 2002, like everyone else in the mortgage business, the lender was overwhelmed by the volume flooding in to its call centers. The lender managed to serve its customers and made chunks of profits out of the volume of calls because it had a special customer connection.
