Countrywide Credit, the parent of the largest free-standing mortgage banking company in the U.S., plans to focus its new commercial bank on the Internet. Officials at Countrywide made clear that the newly renamed Effinity Bank will not replace the mortgage company’s existing Internet mortgage programs, which feature a consumer-direct site that’s tied to more traditional hands-on service as well as a highly developed wholesale channel.
