Pelican Financial, a Michigan-based holding company, is spinning off its mortgage banking operations in an attempt to realize more value from investors. Pelican is the holding company for Washtenaw Mortgage, a wholesale lender that did $2.2 billion in production during the first half of this year, and Pelican National Bank, a $233 million community bank based in southwest Florida.
