Thrift examiners are being told to look closely at the quality of earnings – how well a company’s financial statements accurately depict its business activities – in their periodic reviews. The Office of Thrift Supervision added the new instructions on quality of earnings in an update to the operations analysis section of its regulatory handbook for field examiners.
