The mortgage finance industry is sitting on top of what looks like the biggest quarter ever in new loan production and corporate profits. Industry analysts have been moving their originations forecasts higher all year long, as interest rates have sunk to record lows. The average rate for a 30-year, fixed-rate conventional mortgage dropped to 5.00 percent in the weekly survey conducted by Inside Mortgage Finance, an affiliated newsletter.
