The Internet has proved to be a viable source of new mortgage business, but it’s still a long way from being a major force in the industry. The volume of online mortgage originations has climbed in 2002, but not as fast as overall loan production has risen. And it has become clear that online loan applications have run into the same processing backlogs that have slowed the whole market in recent weeks.
