A recovering economy has pumped life back into the public equity markets, and for the first time in years, the number of mortgage companies turning to them for funding is growing. In the first six months of 2004, 81 initial public offerings have been completed, compared to 68 in all of 2003, according to data from the research firm Renaissance Capital. The completed
