The U.S. mortgage industry funded over a $1 trillion in new home loans during the third quarter of 2003, but only about a quarter of that volume represented growth in the mortgage servicing market. A new analysis by Inside Mortgage Finance reveals that many of the top mortgage servicers struggled to build their portfolios – or strategically chose not to chase every dollar
