The likelihood that Congress will be able to enact legislation this year to revamp the regulatory structure of the housing government-sponsored enterprises appears to have all but vanished. And lawmakers now appear to be setting their sights on next year for passage of any bill to overhaul the government’s oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
