Congressman Richard Baker wasn’t able to get the Bush administration to testify at his first hearing on the accounting problems at Freddie Mac held on relatively short notice this week. But the opening act may have laid the groundwork for relatively speedy action to reform the government’s oversight of both government-sponsored enterprises.
