The share of new private mortgage insurance business subject to risk- and premium sharing arrangements with lenders jumped from a little over one third in 2001 to nearly 50 percent in 2002. More importantly, the MI industry gave up an estimated $450 million in premium income last year – 50 percent more than they did a year earlier.
