Despite a noticeable drop off in current market volume indicators, Fannie Mae has raised its expectations about the U.S. mortgage market in 2002 and now predicts record purchase-money originations for this year. David Berson, chief economist at Fannie Mae, this week upped his forecast for total mortgage originations to $1.76 trillion largely because of an expected new home sales record in 2002.
