Private mortgage insurers forked over an estimated $330 million in premium income – or about 8 percent of their estimated total profits – to mortgage lenders last year as part of captive reinsurance arrangements, a new Inside Mortgage Finance analysis of year-end reports and filings by public companies reveals.
