The federal E-Sign legislation was signed into law with much fanfare last summer, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac sprinted to participate in the first completely electronic mortgage closings. But a year later, industry participants joke that it may take may anywhere from six months to 10 years before electronic mortgage transactions move from novelty status to become cookie-cutter processes.
