Despite a weakening economy, low mortgage rates and strong home sale activity are continuing to drive home appreciation rates to near record levels in early 2001, according to new numbers compiled by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight. And importantly, several of the largest mortgage lending states – including California and New York – have been among the biggest gainers in terms of home prices.
