The surging mortgage market of early 2001 may have begun to ease slightly, if new data from the private mortgage insurance industry are any indication. The Mortgage Insurance Companies of America reports that $20.39 billion in net new primary insurance coverage was written during April, down from a revised $23.77 billion in March. The volume of new applications and commitments also declined.
