Navy Federal Credit Union was the top mortgage originator among credit unions nationwide for all of last year despite recording a sharp 41.6 percent decline in lending volume compared to 1999, according to a new market analysis by Inside Mortgage Finance. In fact, most credit unions active in the mortgage market saw a substantial drop in business during 2000. The National Credit Union Administration reported that first-mortgage lending by all types of credit unions dropped
