Mel Martinez, former chief executive of Orange County, FL, and President-elect Bush’s choice to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development, is on his way to Washington, DC, to await his Senate confirmation. Martinez, a close ally of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and a key Republican operative in the last presidential election, held his last County Commission hearing on Jan. 2.
