Mortgage bankers have aligned with other lenders in support of a federal proposal to establish national standards for federal preemption of certain state financial laws and regulations. Issuing state-specific preemption orders provides certainty to federally chartered lenders and their operating subprime subsidiaries in dealing with the patchwork of local and state anti-predatory lending laws, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association of America.
