The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Inspector General strongly urged agency officials to begin tracking and maintaining credit score files of FHA borrowers to reduce risk to the federal mortgage insurance fund. The recommendation was spurred by the IG’s analysis of Fair Isaac credit scores on a sample of FHA loans originated between October 1997 and March 2002. Loans in the sample were valued at $280 billion.
