Lender-servicers must notify borrowers who fall behind on their mortgage payments of the availability of homeownership counseling, under new examination guidance issued by federal thrift and banking regulators. The guidance applies to conforming single-family home loans and FHA/VA loans covered by the homeownership counseling notification provision of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968.
