A federal district court in Tennessee has ordered trial to proceed against several subprime lenders facing federal racketeering and conspiracy charges. In Echols et. al. v A-USA Mortgage Corp.,. et. al., the court rejected motions by three subprime lenders to dismiss the charges brought against them under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO, a federal statute typically used against organized crime syndicates.
