The Department of Housing and Urban Development issued a clarification of time-frame requirements for FHA loss mitigation initiatives. According to Mortgagee Letter 2001-14, the clarification addresses reinstatement loss mitigation claims and makes several minor procedural changes. Existing guidance was unclear on the minimum delinquency standard to be used for special forbearance and loan modifications. HUD says the minimum delinquency for these options should be three months, i.e., three payments must be due and unpaid.
