The Ginnie Mae MBS market threw a curve ball to analysts in October, producing higher than expected prepayments at the same time most agency MBS prepayment rates were falling. And the culprits were large lenders that capitalized on last month’s market conditions to step up their buyouts of delinquent low coupon mortgages from Ginnie Mae pools.
