Last year was a tough political year for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and their political spending – mostly soft-dollar donations to major political parties – showed it. But this year appears to be a completely different story, both in terms of political heat and spending, as the two government-sponsored enterprises have made relatively few and smaller donations.
