Benefiting from a low interest rate environment, turbulence in the equity markets, and favorable spreads, production of mortgage- and asset-backed securities climbed to the highest level ever during the first half of 2001. According to numbers compiled by Inside MBS & ABS, a record-breaking $723.13 billion in MBS and ABS product was issued during the first six months of the year.
