Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reported huge production volume for April as heavy refinance activity and resilient housing markets combined for record-level securitization. Total mortgage pass-through issuance hit $75.85 billion between the two government-sponsored enterprises in April. With portfolio purchases thrown in, total "new business" by the two companies reached a whopping $94.61 billion for the month.
