The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight got an early – and totally unexpected – Christmas present from Congress this month: an extra $10 million in emergency funding. The agency had sought $7.5 million in supplemental funds. The package included $1.5 million to finish the investigation of Freddie’s operations and $3 million to look into Fannie’s accounting. The balance was needed to hire more examiners, attorneys and human resource staff at the agency.
