Fannie Mae’s GAAP reporting took center stage last week as the GSE reported its net income tumbled a hefty 43 percent between the first and second quarters of this year as the result of a huge $1.88 billion paper loss on its large derivative holdings. But the GSE was able to soothe most analysts – and some investors – by reporting a significant rise in its “core business earnings” on both a quarterly and
