More questions than answers persist about the way both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac manage their derivative portfolios, and the General Accounting Office has now been tasked with the job of sorting it all out. Following Freddie’s recent admission of accounting irregularities surrounding its handling of derivatives, Congressman Richard Baker, R-LA, fired off a letter asking the agency to look into the accounting practices of both GSEs.
