A select club of some of Fannie Mae’s and Freddie Mac’s biggest customers is quietly pressing for new regulatory language that would more clearly keep the two GSEs out of their backyard – the primary mortgage market. The Consumer Mortgage Coalition, a small group of large national lenders, is expected to ask the Department of Housing and Urban Development to address the issue indirectly through a controversial new rulemaking on real estate settlement activity.
