Fannie Mae last week silenced some of its critics by announcing that it had reduced its duration gap – a measure of the GSE’s exposure to interest rate risk – from a negative 14 months to a negative 10 months over the past 30 days. But the lack of information on exactly how Fannie managed to improve its duration gap also triggered a good deal of speculation in the GSE marketplace. One rumor was
