Tired of watching its average mortgage-backed security guarantee fee remain at the same low level for much of the past few years, Freddie Mac set out at the beginning of 2002 to hike the g-fees charged to lenders. But midway through the year, Freddie’s efforts to boost average g-fees appear to have met with little, if any, real success.
