In a deal that could signal the start of another wave of consolidation for the subprime market, GE Consumer Finance has announced plans to buy wholesale lender WMC Mortgage. Terms of the transaction, which is expected to close in the third quarter, were not disclosed. But some sources have suggested that the acquisition will cost GE hundreds of millions of dollars.
