The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has delivered a blow to national banks that want to offer a popular – and lucrative – alternative to credit insurance. In a final rule published in the Sept. 19 Federal Register, the OCC prohibited banks from requiring lump sum payments, including financed payments, on debt cancellation and debt suspension products.
