Lenders looking to funnel subprime loans to Freddie Mac will face tighter underwriting guidelines in the months ahead. In a bulletin issued last week, the government-sponsored enterprise expanded the definition of an acceptable credit reputation to encompass the borrower’s ability to manage obligations. Freddie said that ability is “a very important component of borrower credit reputation and must be established along with the borrower’s willingness to repay obligations.
